2020 has been a difficult year for many brides since so many of you have had to delay your wedding plans to next year. I'm trying to be sensitive to what we're dealing with during this pandemic, and while some would say given what this virus has unleashed weddings are not essential, I also strongly empathize with brides as I know how much work goes into this day so many of you have been dreaming of forever. I've been thinking of what 2021 weddings will look like and no doubt some colour palettes will cross over from the weddings we expected this year. Although, I can't wait to see what wedding couples will come up with after another year of planning. So, what's trending for 2021 weddings? Here are my favourites so far. 1. Terracotta DreamingImages: Array Design, Best Wishes Paper via Etsy, Kitty Wheeler Shaw, Mosshound Designs, Joel & Justyna, Jamie Mercurio, The Shultzes, Lynette Boyle, Miranda Lawson Photography, Wonderland_Invites via Instagram. Who doesn't love the earthy and raw tones of terracotta mixed with a lovely sage green, luxurious cream, and dark navy blue? I almost wish I could get married again just to try this combo out. I adore the hints of gold that you can add in to drive home earth's precious resources. This natural palette is wonderful for weddings since it brings the outdoors in, and provides warm and comforting atmosphere. Which we will all need in 2021 after dealing with the anxiety-ridden 2020. Natural EleganceImages: Payge Stevens Photography, The Edges, Vicki Grafton Photography, Andrea Van Orsouw Photography, Mikayla via Pinterest, Andrea Hallgren Photography, Through the Glass Paris. Who knew that au natural was trendy for weddings? It is surprising and yet refreshing. No, it's not basic as few would argue. It is an understated elegance that will put guests at ease. The beautiful bride, surroundings, foliage, and smiles will all stand out with this canvas laid out before them. 2020 has given us a renewed love of our surroundings and this is the perfect palette to take all the loveliness in. Colour palette: light grey, cream, forest green, black 3. Lilac FieldsImages: ArtPetrov via Instagram, Bryan Sargent Photography, Katepeasephotography via Instagram, Flowerdesigns via Pinterest, Vasia Photography, Brit.co via Pinterest, Cakemepretty via Instagram, Want that Wedding via Pinterest, Lakecomoweddings via Instagram, Badgley Mischka shoes. Lilac is going to be a big trend next year. As part of the Pantone colour picks for Spring/Summer 2021, I love how lilac can be the "it" colour and yet be a highlight as well. The key is to not to overdue it - you don't want a tacky wedding look from the 80s - use lilac touches instead. Draw on complementary colours such as dark navy blue or green, gold, cream, and lavender to make your palette a 2021 success. Colour palette: lilac, lavender, dark navy blue, gold, and cream 4. Boho WildflowerImages: Carley Jayne Photography, June Bug Weddings, Katepeasephotography via Instagram, Gina Paulson Photography, Karli Lindor via Instagram, Seattle Bride Magazine, Karin Lundin Photography, Esme Fletcher Photography and Chloe Papworth via Instagram., 2020 threw us into the wild, literally. Nature has provided us with a beautiful escape from our quarantined lives and that's why I think wildflowers and foliage are going to big trends for 2021 weddings. According to the Canadian Encyclopedia, there are about 3,000 species of wildflowers in Canada. Visit your backyard for inspiration or seek help from a florist or garden centre expert to identify the types of wildflowers you want in your wedding. Wildflowers are not only a sustainable option, but they will also be less expensive, giving you more money to spend on a chic and well-stocked bar.
